Senate approves historic, bipartisan prison sentencing reform bill…
December 19, 2018
The Senate Tuesday approved an historic and bipartisan reform of the criminal justice system that aims to reduce the sentences of nonviolent offenders and cut recidivism rates by helping prisoners productively rejoin society.
With the House of Representatives almost certain to pass the bill, the Senate vote sets up a major legislative victory for President Trump — who has promised to sign it — as he approaches the halfway point of his four-year term.
The legislation, with the help of the White House, won an easy Senate majority despite conservative GOP opponents and the early reluctance of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who had just weeks ago downplayed the likelihood of taking up the measure this year.
The Senate approved the bill in a 87-12 vote. Among the "no" votes was a moderate Republican senator, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. McConnell, who initially fought the bill, voted yes.
U.S. to offer ‘black box’ nuclear waste tech to other nations…
December 19, 2018
The U.S. Department of Energy’s nuclear security office is developing a project to help other countries handle nuclear waste, an effort to keep the United States competitive against global rivals in disposal technology, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
The push comes as the United States struggles to find a solution for its own mounting nuclear waste inventories amid political opposition to a permanent dump site in Nevada, proposed decades ago, and concerns about the cost and security of recycling the waste back into fuel.
The National Nuclear Security Administration is considering helping other countries by using technologies that could involve techniques such as crushing, heating and sending a current through the waste to reduce its volume, the sources said.

Three Pro-Gun Groups File A Lawsuit Over The Bump Stock Ban. Here’s What You Need to Know…
December 19, 2018
They are seeking a preliminary injunction, which would keep the ATF from enacting the new bump stock regulation while the court's review its constitutionality.
The plaintiffs argue that the Trump administration's definition of a "bump stock" and a "machine gun" are not one and the same. They're also challenging Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker's authority to issue regulations without being nominated to the role and confirmed by the Senate or by operation of law.
Most people don't really care much about bump stocks, but the issue is the infringement on our gun rights. They are being eroded away slowly. No matter how you look at it, it's a step on a slippery slope.
But notice the argument is also on Whitaker's authority. How will this affect his supposed role in Q's "The Plan". Super interesting thing to watch here.
