Rampaging driver injures several people after striking pedestrians, cars in San Francisco…
May 30, 2019
A rampaging driver in a stolen vehicle tore through San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon, hitting two pedestrians and several vehicles at five different sites before police arrested her in the city’s South of Market neighborhood, officials said... The spree began when police ran the license plate at 1:56 p.m. near Eddy and Taylor streets and found the SUV was stolen, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak, a police spokesman. When officers tried to pull her over, the woman drove onto a sidewalk and smashed into a pedestrian, pinning him against scaffolding in front of the Tenderloin police station, Andraychak said.
ABC News reported that the female suspect (yet to be identified) was wearing only a top and underwear when she was arrested.
New Hampshire abolishes death penalty after lawmakers override governor…
May 30, 2019
This debate has been largely symbolic, because New Hampshire has neither an active death penalty system nor any executions on the horizon... After Gov. Chris Sununu (R) vetoed a bill last year abolishing the death penalty, lawmakers passed another measure this year with enough support to withstand a veto... This bill “changes the penalty for capital murder to life imprisonment without the possibility for parole,” stripping away the possibility of a death sentence for such crimes.
California Assembly OKs health care for immigrants in US illegally…
May 30, 2019
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to spend about $98 million a year to cover low-income immigrants between the ages of 19 and 25 who are living in the country illegally. The state Senate's budget proposal would also add coverage for people 65 and older living in the country illegally. The state Assembly's bill would cover all immigrants in California living in the country illegally over the age of 19. But Newsom has raised concern about the assembly's bill because it is estimated to cost more than $3 billion a year. The bill passed 44-11. The proposed law, Assembly Bill 4, goes next to the state Senate.

Japan bombed an asteroid and now it’s preparing to collect the debris…
May 30, 2019
Japan's Hayabusa2 spacecraft has been tailing the asteroid Ryugu since June 2018. It's successfully touched down on the asteroid's surface and shot a cannonball at the spinning space rock to collect debris -- so it has already achieved big things. However, it's chief mission is to study and sample Ryugu, and then return to Earth with samples from the asteroid in late 2020. That makes the second sample collection a high stakes gambit, but with the target marker successfully deployed, JAXA will be hopeful of success...

Here’s the debate between Trish Regan and China’s Liu Xin on U.S. & China trade and intellectual property…
May 30, 2019
Trish could of gotten much tougher but for some reason held back. For example, she could have asked some tougher questions, like about China’s Internet blockage, and whether Liu Xin’s breaking the blockage to give this interview would be a breach of China law - not to mention Liu's breaking through GFW restrictions and using Twitter, which is illegal in China. She could of also reminded Liu about China's role in allowing foreign companies like Apple to sell their products there without years worth of negotiations and restrictions.

Composer Andreas Vollenweider was recruited to write the therapeutic music, working with a developmental support nurse to experiment with different sounds on newborn babies...

The instrument that generated the most reactions was the Indian snake charmers' flute (the punji). Very agitated children calmed down almost instantly, their attention was drawn to the music!"...

Korean researchers 3D-print biocompatible human cornea…
May 30, 2019
The cornea is the thin outermost layer of the eye that covers the pupil and provides protection from the external environment. The first layer admits light and therefore it needs to be transparent, move as the pupil moves, and have flexibility.
The researchers say that because their printed cornea is made of corneal tissue-derived bio-ink, it is biocompatible. Furthermore, 3D cell-printing technology recapitulates the corneal microenvironment, therefore its transparency is similar to the human cornea...
