Georgia hit with federal lawsuit from the ACLU over ‘heartbeat’ abortion ban…
June 28, 2019
“This legislation is blatantly unconstitutional under nearly 50 years of U.S. Supreme Court precedent. Politicians should never second guess women’s health care decisions,” said Sean J. Young, legal director of the ACLU of Georgia, in a statement.
“Politicians have no business telling women or a couple when to start or expand a family. Our lawsuit asks the court to block the law from taking effect.”...
BUSINESS INSIDER: What George Soros’ life is really like: How the former hedge-fund manager built his $8.3 billion fortune, purchased a sprawling network of New York homes, and became the topic of international conspiracy theories…
June 28, 2019
Conspiracy theorists accuse former hedge-fund manager George Soros of aiding Nazis, conspiring to fill Budapest with refugees, and trying to start a Civil War in the United States. While these theories lack support, little is actually known about how the 88-year-old billionaire passes his days.
Soros built his fortune running what was once the world's largest hedge fund — Quantum Fund. After he passed his hedge fund to his sons in 2011, Soros has largely focused his personal goal of creating a more open society through giving to both his personal foundation and a variety of progressive politicians, according to his personal website.
Keep reading to see how George Soros built his fortune, how he spends it — and why.
Why would Business Insider claim George Soros' aiding of Nazi's was a conspiracy theory when in fact, he admited it himself?
Nokia’s CTO Slams Huawei After ‘Potential Backdoors’ Found In 55% Of Its Devices…
June 28, 2019
The comments from Nokia's CTO came in light of research from Finite State, which published a scathing report claiming that "Huawei devices quantitatively pose a high risk to their users. In virtually all categories we examined, Huawei devices were found to be less secure than those from other vendors making similar devices."...
And this included the potential backdoors that lie at the heart of the U.S. government's security case against the Chinese company. "Out of all the firmware images analyzed, 55% had at least one potential backdoor," Finite State found. "These backdoor access vulnerabilities allow an attacker with knowledge of the firmware and/or with a corresponding cryptographic key to log into the device."...

Rat Feeding Study Suggests the Impossible Burger May Not Be Safe to Eat…
'Beyond meat' stocks take a dive after consumer group warns of chemicals in fake meat...
June 28, 2019
A rat feeding study commissioned by the manufacturer Impossible Foods found that rats fed SLH developed unexplained weight gain and changes in the blood that can indicate the onset of inflammation or kidney disease, as well as possible signs of anemia. Impossible Foods dismissed these statistically significant effects as “non-adverse” or as having “no toxicological relevance”...
So a study commissioned by the manufacturers themselves showed detrimental results, then they dismiss it because it would harm their bottom line. The funniest part? These vegans tested this on animals.
Tiny flying insect robot has four wings and weighs under a gram…
Read the research paper here...
June 28, 2019
For years, scientists have wanted to create flying robotic vehicles the size of insects. The tricky bit has been building something that can produce enough thrust while still being light enough to fly, without being tethered to an external power source. Now, a group of researchers have hit on a new design. At half the weight of a paper clip, 'RoboBee X-wing' has achieved untethered flight using ultra-lightweight solar cells, powering piezoelectric actuators, via a stripped down circuit board. This technology is in its infancy, but could pave the way for a new generation of miniature drones. Researchers hope these insect-bots could manoeuvre around much more cramped spaces than conventional, larger drones, potentially helping with environmental and disaster monitoring...
Axon, a major supplier of police body cameras and software, announced today that it will not include face-matching technology in its body cameras — at least not yet…
June 28, 2019
The decision follows a report from Axon's independent AI ethics board, which concluded that face recognition technology is not reliable enough to justify its use in body cameras. According to the report, there is "evidence of unequal and unreliable performance across races, ethnicities, genders and other identity groups."
Axon has not yet deployed facial recognition technology in any of its body cameras, but it has been using the AI to help blur faces in videos before they are released to the public...

NASA Selects Flying Mission to Study Saturn’s exotic moon Titan for Origins, Signs of Life…
June 28, 2019
... the Dragonfly mission will fly multiple sorties to sample and examine sites around Saturn’s icy moon. Dragonfly will launch in 2026 and arrive in 2034. The rotorcraft will fly to dozens of promising locations on Titan looking for prebiotic chemical processes common on both Titan and Earth. Dragonfly marks the first time NASA will fly a multi-rotor vehicle for science on another planet; it has eight rotors and flies like a large drone. It will take advantage of Titan’s dense atmosphere – four times denser than Earth’s – to become the first vehicle ever to fly its entire science payload to new places for repeatable and targeted access to surface materials.
How Close Are We to Controlling Machines With Our Minds?…
June 28, 2019
From outsmarting the self check-out to providing options for patients with communication disorders, merging mind with machine could be the next frontier for humanity. How close are we to controlling machines with our minds?
We're really already there...
This New Mind-Controlled Robot Arm Works Without a Brain Implant."A team from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is... creating the first noninvasive mind-controlled robot arm that exhibits the kind of smooth, continuous motion previously reserved only for systems involving brain implants - putting us one step closer to a future in which we can all use our minds to control the tech around us."
China Unveils First Chip Designed Specifically for Mind-Reading
“The signals transmitted and processed by the brain are submerged in the background noise,” Tianjin University researcher Ming Dong said in a press release. “This BC3 [Brain-Computer Codec Chip] has the ability to discriminate minor neural electrical signals and decode their information efficiently, which can greatly enhance the speed and accuracy of brain-computer interfaces.”
Dilemmas in regulating brain-computer interface devices
"A major challenge for regulators will be to resolve issues around data and the threat of malicious hacking. Research has found that brain-computer interface devices could be vulnerable to cybercrime; termed ‘neurocrime’ and ‘brain hacking’ by ETH Zurich research fellow Dr Marcello Ienca and Radboud University Nijmegen associate professor Pim Haselager."

Dalai Lama expresses worry over Europe becoming ‘Muslim country’, says Trump lacks ‘moral principle’…
June 28, 2019
The Dalai Lama has expressed concern over Europe becoming a “Muslim country” or an “African country”. In a wide-ranging interview to BBC, the Tibetan spiritual leader also made remarks about the possibility of a woman successor and United States President Donald Trump’s lack of “moral principle”.
The Dalai Lama stood by his last year’s remark that “Europe is for Europeans”, and added: “European countries should take these refugees and give them education and training, and the aim is return to their own land with certain skills.”...
When asked about the possibility of a woman successor, he said, laughing: “If a female Dalai Lama comes, she should be more attractive.”...
