California Democrats push bill allowing noncitizens to hold party leadership roles…
July 2, 2019
While current state law limits the ability of noncitizens to participate in party politics, the new bill (SB288) would let them serve as state convention delegates and county committee leaders with the Democratic Party, allowing them to be involved in the party platform and other issues.
California state Sen. Scott Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco who was one of the lawmakers behind SB288, did not return Fox News’ request for comment but speaking to reporters last Friday said that the new bill was meant both as a way for noncitizens to have a say in the policies of the California Democratic Party -- and as a rebuke of the Trump administration’s hardline immigration stance.
To combat the growing threat of spreading misinformation ahead of the U.S. 2020 general election, The Wall Street Journal has formed a committee to help reporters navigate DeepFakes…
July 2, 2019
The Journal also invites academics and researchers to give regular talks on new detection technology. It has written newsroom guides and holds training sessions — Marconi estimates between 120 and 150 WSJ journalists have participated. It also monitors the different detection tools being developed by major tech companies and startups. For now, training is not mandatory. Although the technology and tools are improving to spot fakes, standard journalistic process, like thoroughly checking sources, still apply.
Understanding the scale of the problem is tricky, but there are some indications. Cybersecurity startup DeepTrace has detected over 8,000 fake pornographic videos on adult entertainment sites. Like a lot of new technology, AI-manipulated videos have roots in the porn industry. In 2018, Google searches for “deepfakes” were 1,000 times higher than in 2017. A study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in January into the makeup of all academic papers about AI, found that neural networks (the main approach used for these doctored videos) were mentioned in 25% of the papers, more than any other machine-learning method...

July 2, 2019
The files were taken home by a contractor at the U.S. Air Force National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC)...
The files, many of which were marked ‘TOP SECRET,’ were uncovered by the Fairborn City Police Department on May 25, the FBI wrote in its search warrant application. Officers came upon the files as they were investigating an alleged “marijuana growing facility” believed to have been located at the home of the suspect, Izaak Vincent Kemp, according to the warrant. The police did find marijuana, but the case was escalated to the FBI after the discovery of the classified papers, the warrant revealed.
The documents should have had especially strong safeguards from leaking as they were marked as being protected by “Special Access Programs.” Such files are deemed so sensitive they require additional security beyond what’s normally provided for classified files and should only be stored in segregated, highly protected environments...

Officials push back on AOC’s border station claims, say she is ‘misinforming’ the public
July 2, 2019
“They are not drinking out of the toilet—no Border Patrol agent is going to make anyone drink out of the toilet,” former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Tom Homan said on Fox News' “America’s Newsroom” Tuesday. “It’s just ridiculous on its face.” Homan alleged that Ocasio-Cortez was “clearly, intentionally misinforming the American public.” “She’s lost all credibility,” he said. Homan suggested she was simply referring to the “apparatus” in holding cells that has an attached sink and toilet, but two separate water lines. “You’re drinking out of the same apparatus, the same piece of equipment, but there are two separate water lines—one going to the commode, one going to the sink,” Homan explained. “... [T]hey are designed that way to try to save space and make it more comfortable for the people who are in those facilities.”

The amended settlement says Motel 6 must adhere to a three-year consent decree to not give guest information to immigration authorities without a warrant or subpoena and to provide training on the issue to workers. Victims will also be compensated.
Cloudflare claims outage caused by bad software deploy…
July 2, 2019
For about 30 minutes today, visitors to Cloudflare sites received 502 errors caused by a massive spike in CPU utilization on our network. This CPU spike was caused by a bad software deploy that was rolled back. Once rolled back the service returned to normal operation and all domains using Cloudflare returned to normal traffic levels.
This was not an attack (as some have speculated) and we are incredibly sorry that this incident occurred. Internal teams are meeting as I write performing a full post-mortem to understand how this occurred and how we prevent this from ever occurring again.

July 2, 2019
The lawsuit was filed Tuesday by the Ways and Means Committee against the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service.

July 2, 2019
Approximately 1,000 activists marched through the streets of Boston Tuesday to protest the treatment of migrants and call for the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), recalling comments by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who has repeatedly referred to detention facilities on the U.S.-Mexico border as "concentration camps."
Michaela Caplana, 23, helped organized the protest through the Never Again Action group, told The Boston Globe her grandmother survived Auschwitz and she lost more than 30 family members in the Holocaust, which inspired her to be part of the movement.
