It’s getting extremely difficult to live in New York if you’re making less than six figures, according to a new analysis from Bloomberg. The impact is being felt by those who live alone and it's taking place in areas that were previously seen as affordable.
Solo renters in popular Brooklyn neighborhoods like Prospect Heights, Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill now need to be making at least $100,000 per year to live there, a dramatic change from just five years ago. The lower east side of Manhattan has also followed suit.

Loomer, 26, is registered to run as a Republican against the incumbent, Democratic Rep. Lois Frankel, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission. Frankel represents a heavily Democratic district and did not face a challenger in 2018... “The congressional seat is currently held by Democrat Lois Frankel, a staunch obstructionist and critic of President Donald J. Trump, and a close friend and ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi," a press release from Loomer said. "Frankel, despite chairing the Democratic Congressional Women’s Caucus has refused to denounce Freshmen Democrat Reps. Ilhan Omar, AOC, and Rashida Tlaib for their anti-Semitism." Karen Giorno, a Republican strategist, will lead her campaign. She was the Florida state director for President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
...most nondairy milks pale in comparison to cows’ milk. Plant-based milks are made by breaking down plants and reconstituting their proteins in water to resemble the fluid from a lactating bovine. These proteins differ fundamentally from true dairy proteins, and the results — milks, cheeses and yogurts in name only — often fail to measure up in color, taste or texture... Dairy tastes like dairy thanks to two key proteins, casein and whey protein. Researchers at several start-up companies, including New Culture, have begun producing these proteins in the lab, with the aim of creating a new grocery store category: cow-free dairy.
Their process is loosely comparable to the way Impossible Foods or Beyond Meat makes meatless burgers. Microbes, such as yeast, are given the genetic instructions to produce the dairy proteins. The microbes are then cultivated en masse, with nutrients added and the temperature adjusted. Eventually the organisms start churning out large quantities of the proteins, and these are isolated and added to various recipes.
Questions have arisen since the video was shared, with many wondering why the bottles weren't delivered to victims or how there was a surplus when the need was so high for so long in the wake of Hurricane Maria. These questions remain unanswered...
I have new information about those water bottles in Dorado, Puerto Rico. @FEMA got back to me with more details, plus I spoke with the Puerto Rico business owner who won a contract to dispose of the water and the bottles.
Judicial Watch, the Washington, D.C.-based conservative watchdog group, filed a federal lawsuit in September 2018 against the Justice Department for access to the FBI's notes, known as “302s," of its 2016 and 2017 interviews in order to “compel compliance with the Freedom of Information Act” after the DOJ declined to voluntarily hand over the requested materials following the group’s August 2018 request...
In court filings last week, DOJ attorneys said the department had “initially determined that the requested records in this case were to be withheld in full” but apparently had a change of heart “after further review” and said “DOJ has decided to release the requested records in part to plaintiff.” It is not known how complete this disclosure will be and whether significant portions of Ohr’s interviews will be withheld or redacted.
