School Bans Harry Potter Books After Priest Says Readers Could ‘Conjure Evil Spirits’…
September 3, 2019
Rev. Dan Reehil of Nashville’s St. Edward Catholic School said he was recommended by U.S. exorcists to take the seven-book series off the school’s library shelves because of how they presented magic. Reehil said he believes the spells in the series are real, and readers could be harmed by reading them.
There Are More Fires Burning in Africa Than Anywhere on Earth, But No One Is Talking About It…
September 3, 2019
As the world has watched with fear and fascination the fires burning in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, satellite images show a far greater number of blazes on the African continent.
NASA has called Africa the “fire continent,” home to at least 70% of the 10,000 fires burning worldwide on an average August day, though the agency says the number of fires is consistent from year to year...

A U.S. envoy told a news channel in Afghanistan that Washington and Kabul have reached an agreement “in principle” to withdraw 5,400 troops within months of signing a peace deal with the Taliban, reports said. Zalmay Khalilzad, the envoy, said President Trump must first approve the deal before it is official. He said, “In principle, we have got there. The document is closed,” according to Reuters.

New Greek government cracks down on migrant squats sheltered by anarchists’ collectives…
September 3, 2019
It had been barely light outside when police descended on the neighborhood and evacuated four squats earlier that same morning. Two had been makeshift shelters for refugees and migrants; the other two housed anarchist collectives; 57 men, 51 women and 35 minors from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Eritrea and Turkey were shuttled away in police vans to have their legal status inspected at the city’s Aliens’ Bureau...
The raids, which started on Monday, are part of a wider effort to make good on a campaign pledge by Greece’s new center-right prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who promised to “clean up” the “lawless” Athens neighborhood ahead of a national election in July. Police spokesman Stravos Balaskas referred to the police intervention as a “silent vacuum cleaner” that “will gradually suck up all the garbage” in Exarchia...
Panic as Newark airport evacuated after flight attendant raises false alarm…
September 3, 2019
People preparing to fly out of Newark International Airport after the holiday weekend fled the building in a panic as an employee sounded an alarm after a strange interaction with two men Monday night. Steve Coleman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said 150 to 200 passengers in Terminal A “self-evacuated” on a ramp outside Gate 37 around 8:30 p.m... Authorities determined there was no danger to anyone, he said. Coleman said the two men were questioned and released by Port Authority police, and no charges were filed. The flight attendant was still being questioned at 10:30 p.m., he said.

“Particle” Robots Work Together to Perform Tasks – Clusters of decentralized units could be used in search and rescue operations or drug delivery…
September 3, 2019
Scientists have created a robot consisting of multiple units that can operate as a cluster, responding to stimuli and acting on their environment without the need for any centralized control—much like living cells. The scientists say miniaturized versions of the particles could be used in search and rescue operations—for example, spreading sensor-equipped units over the debris field of a collapsed house to find buried victims. Tiny units could also deliver drugs to hard-to-reach parts of the human body or boost research by modeling the cellular action involved in organ formation.
The prototype particles are equipped with light sensors and simple electronics that make them expand or contract in accordance with an algorithm...
US, Poland Sign 5G Pact Taking Aim At China & Russia Cyber Espionage…
September 3, 2019
Amid what's become a global showdown of sorts between the US and Huawei, the US and Poland on Monday inked a new deal to cooperate on new 5G technology which could eventually lead to a ban on China's Huawei from the East European country. The agreement puts in place a “careful and complete evaluation” of any companies seeking to install 5G components and software... Vice President Mike Pence signed the deal in place of President Trump — who cancelled the planned trip over the Hurricane Dorian emergency — with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, as part of continuing efforts at keeping Huawei out of Europe over fears it's using its advanced 5G networks to enable Chinese state spying.

Canada’s French-speaking province of Quebec is seeing a new trend of young non-Muslim people adopting Islamic customs and holidays…
September 3, 2019
The new phenomenon was first noted by anthropologist Géraldine Mossière who found young people, mostly women, in Montreal who frequented Muslim associations and cafes and began to adopt Islamic practices without ever formally converting, La Presse reports.
According to Mossière, the subjects she met did everything from banning themselves from eating pork to celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
“These are young people who have experienced in school a cultural mix conducive to the integration of certain cultural beliefs. Sometimes they do it in solidarity with their Muslim friends. Those who do not go to conversion see Muslim practices as personal development, such as yoga or meditation,” Mossière claimed...
Detective Mark Fuhrman: Epstein’s crimes may have gone deeper than we thought …
September 3, 2019
Epstein, a college drop-out, began his career as a math teacher at the esteemed Dalton Preparatory School, explained Fuhrman. After connecting with a prominent parent of one of his students, Epstein was offered a job on Wall Street and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a partner at the well-known investment banking firm Bear Stearns. Epstein's sudden rise to the top was seemingly suspicious, according to Fuhrman, and he questioned whether Epstein was promoted because he was "procuring sexual dates" for the financial world. "I'm going to call it bull**** on this," said Fuhrman. It's too much -- it's over the top. You look at these positions on Wall Street, they're coveted, they recruit from the best schools to get into these places, and here he was...a limited partner of the firm," he explained.
