Colorado becomes first state to ban barcodes for counting votes over security concerns…
September 16, 2019
The decision is a further step toward prioritizing the role of human eye, rather than computers to count votes... "A voter can verify the ovals, the candidates they chose, but how it gets tabulated is actually through an encrypted QR code," Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold told CNN. "Is it really a voter verified paper trail if a voter cannot verify the encrypted QR code?" To that end, from 2021, Colorado will no longer certify machines that count votes by QR or barcode. Under a pending deal with Dominion, the vendor that currently supplies Colorado's voting equipment, a newly engineered software upgrade will instead print out ballots with choices picked marked with darkened ovals, identical to how a hand-marked ballot would look...

Investigation launched into babies born with deformed hands in Germany…
September 16, 2019
Authorities in the city of Gelsenkirchen, about 18 miles (30km) from Dortmund, are looking into possible causes of the birth defects. Two children were born with underdeveloped fingers and palms on their left hands and another child had the same problems on their right hand. The babies were all born at the Sankt Marien Hospital between June and September and were the first to have been born there with defects for 'many years'. Officials in the North Rhine-Westphalia state said the abnormalities were 'conspicuous' and they come after a government investigation was launched in France last year after dozens of babies were born with deformed limbs.

Joe Biden says white people can “never fully understand” racism…
September 16, 2019
Visiting a black church bombed by the Ku Klux Klan during the civil rights era, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden framed current racial tensions as part of an enduring struggle that is older than the nation... He is trying to capitalize on his strength among older black voters while navigating criticism from some African American and other nonwhite leaders, particularly younger ones, who take a skeptical view of the 76-year-old white man's willingness and ability to address systemic racism. During his 20 minutes at the pulpit, Biden condemned institutional racism as the direct legacy of slavery and lamented that the nation has "never lived up to" the ideals of equality written into its founding documents.
Vapers Are Quitting E-Cigarettes… And Switching To Regular Cigs Instead…
September 16, 2019
E-cigarettes, long touted as a healthier way to move off the original cancer sticks, suddenly face an alarming bad rap: mysterious lung diseases; random explosions during use; a link with cancer and heart disease.
At the same time, the devices’ so-called strengths have become weaknesses. Users originally drawn to the cheap hit—you get more nicotine for less cash—now find that it’s not always ideal to be able surreptitiously suck on the sticks wherever you choose, whether in subways or school hallways.
In desperation, as California Healthline reports, users with growing dependence on the devices are now looking to a familiar friend to help them quit: cigarettes...

ban on eating dogs and cats in the UK has been blocked over fears it might offend people from South-East Asian countries…
September 16, 2019
Former DEFRA Secretary Michael Gove ordered the move in the summer despite the sickening practice being rare in the UK. Dog groups persuaded him that it would send a powerful message to South East Asian countries where the practice is still rife, matching a similar law passed in the US last year. But The Sun can reveal that nervous civil servants have stepped in to halt the ground-breaking move.

State prosecutors in Manhattan have subpoenaed President Trump’s accounting firm to demand eight years of his personal and corporate tax returns, according to several people with knowledge of the matter. The subpoena opens a new front in a wide-ranging effort to obtain copies of the president’s tax returns, which Mr. Trump initially said he would make public during the 2016 campaign but has since refused to disclose.

CBD Vapes spiked with illegal drugs…
September 16, 2019
Jay Jenkins says he hesitated when a buddy suggested they vape CBD. “It’ll relax you,” the friend assured. The vapor that Jenkins inhaled didn’t relax him. After two puffs, he ended up in a coma... Some operators are cashing in on the CBD craze by substituting cheap and illegal synthetic marijuana for natural CBD in vapes and edibles such as gummy bears... AP commissioned laboratory testing of the vape oil Jenkins used plus 29 other vape products sold as CBD around the country, with a focus on brands that authorities or users flagged as suspect. Ten of the 30 contained types of synthetic marijuana — drugs commonly known as K2 or spice that have no known medical benefits — while others had no CBD at all.
