Gowdy Not Joining Trump Team Because of Lobbying Rules…
October 13, 2019
For 24 hours last week, Trey Gowdy, the former South Carolina congressman best known for leading congressional investigations of Hillary Clinton, was the new face of President Trump’s outside legal defense and a symbol of a streamlined effort to respond to a fast-moving impeachment inquiry.
A day later, the arrangement fell apart, with lobbying rules prohibiting Mr. Gowdy from starting until January, possibly after the inquiry is over. Now, according to two people familiar with events, Mr. Gowdy is never expected to join the team. And Trump advisers are back to square one, searching for a different lawyer...

America’s deadly obesity epidemic. Americans are collectively gaining weight at an alarming rate, with the average adult weighing about 15 pounds more than 20 years ago…
October 13, 2019
Americans are collectively gaining weight at an alarming rate, with the average adult weighing about 15 pounds more than 20 years ago. In defining obesity, nutritionists focus on body mass index: A healthy person has a BMI of 18.5 to 24, while an obese person has a BMI above 30. Today, about 40 percent of U.S. adults and nearly 20 percent of children are obese, a surge reflected worldwide, with more people now overweight or obese (1.9 billion) than underfed (800 million). In 1985, no state in the U.S. had an obesity rate above 15 percent; now every state's is higher than 20. Excess weight is a major factor driving runaway medical costs. Obesity-related diabetes alone "will break the bank of our health-care system," said University of Colorado nutrition expert James Hill. "Obesity may be the toughest social issue that we have ever faced."

Scientists work out way to make Mars surface fit for farming | Aerogel sheet mimics Earth’s greenhouse effect and could help to create fertile oases…
October 13, 2019
The harsh environment on Mars has always made growing food a daunting prospect, but scientists believe they have cracked the problem with sheets of material that can transform the cold, arid surface into land fit for farming.
The “aerogel” sheets work by mimicking Earth’s greenhouse effect, where energy from the sun is trapped on the planet by carbon dioxide and other gases. Spread out in the right places on Mars, the sheets would warm the ground and melt enough subsurface ice to keep plants alive...

October 13, 2019
When asked by left-wing “Meet The Press” host Chuck Todd about whether he was concerned over Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s interaction with Ukraine, Paul responded, “If anything is consistent here it’s that both parties have tried to involve themselves in Ukraine. So for example, four senators, Democrats, wrote a letter to the Ukrainian government and said, ‘If you don’t keep investigating Trump we may reconsider our bipartisan support for your aid.’ Both parties seem to be doing this.”...

He also said:
BRENNAN: Quickly, do you regret saying that we, the committee, weren’t in touch with the whistleblower?
SCHIFF: I should have been much more clear and I said so the minute it was brought to my attention that I was referring to the fact that when the whistleblower filed the complaint, we had not heard from the whistleblower. We wanted to bring the whistleblower in at that time. But I should’ve been much more clear about that.Team Develops First Ever Autonomous Humanoid Robot With Full-Body Artificial Skin…

October 13, 2019
The region's Kurdish-led administration said in a statement that 785 IS-affiliated foreigners had fled the camp at Ain Issa. In apparent reference to Turkish-backed rebels, the Kurdish-led administration said 'mercenaries' attacked the camp where 'Daesh elements' - a reference to Islamic State - in turn attacked camp guards and opened the gates. Images shared by the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights appear to picture people running away from the Ain Issa.
