All three of the major averages opened at record highs on Monday morning amid renewed hopes of a phase one trade deal between the U.S. and China. In a Monday press briefing, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have remained in contact while negotiators craft the final language for the "phase one" of the trade agreement between the two economic powers. The major averages all opened higher by about 0.5 percent.
An unidentified source told the network that National Security Council lawyers John Eisenberg and Michael Ellis will not testify. Two other officials, Robert Blair, assistant to the president and senior adviser to acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, and Brian McCormack, associate director for natural resources energy and science at the Office of Management and Budget, had already declined to testify, outlets reported Saturday.
An administration official told that CNN that Eisenberg is claiming executive privilege, while Blair, Ellis and McCormack said they are not going to appear because they won’t be able to have an administration lawyer present, according to CNN.
