IRS drops longstanding promise not to compete against TurboTax…
January 3, 2020
- TurboTax maker Intuit, H&R Block, and other tax prep companies are now barred from hiding their free services from search results as part of a new agreement with the Internal Revenue Service.
- The agreement also allows the IRS to create its own free filing service that directly competes with commercial products like TurboTax.
- Previously, the IRS had promised not to compete with tax prep companies in exchange for them offering free filing services to taxpayers who earn less than $69,000 per year — roughly 70% of Americans.
- The new agreement, which effectively ends that deal, comes after reporting by ProPublica revealed that Intuit and H&R Block had intentionally hid their free filing services from Google.

Washington Free Beacon: Trump Calls the Ayatollah’s Bluff And scores a victory against terrorism…
January 3, 2020
It is now Trump, not Ayatollah Khamenei, who has ascended a rung on the ladder of escalation by killing the military architect of Iran's Shiite empire. For years, Iran has set the rules. It was Iran that picked the time and place of confrontation. No more. Reciprocity has been the key to understanding Donald Trump. Whether you are a media figure or a mullah, a prime minister or a pope, he will be good to you if you are good to him. Say something mean, though, or work against his interests, and he will respond in force. It won't be pretty. It won't be polite. There will be fallout. But you may think twice before crossing him again...

The Navy wants to teach its robot warships to talk…
January 3, 2020
The justification for the system is simple: even the Navy's unmanned vessels have to follow the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS), which mandate that ship crews acknowledge each other and verbally determine how their vessels will pass one another at sea — something the service's current batch of robot ships simply can't do.
