Codebreakers Cracked Zodiac Killer’s Cipher After 51 Years…
After 51 years, a team of experts from three different countries collaborated and cracked the code to a cipher sent by the infamous Zodiac killer to police and newspapers. They called him the Zodiac Killer because of his use of astrological symbols and references.
The cipher’s text includes: “I hope you are having lots of fun in trying to catch me. … I am not afraid of the gas chamber because it will send me to paradice (sic) all the sooner because I now have enough slaves to work for me.”
During an interview with the San Fransisco Chronicle, Oranchak, a 46-year-old web designer from Virginia said “this is exciting… We’ve been sitting on the solution since last Saturday. When I first started looking at the Zodiac ciphers all those years ago, I thought, ‘Oh, I can just write a computer program and solve it,’ but it’s been kicking my a— all this time. Until now.”
A spokeswoman for the FBI in San Francisco confirmed Oranchak’s claim.
