Governor DeSantis Signs Order Canceling COVID Fines by Local Governments…

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a new executive order targeting rogue Florida cities and counties that have enforced their own Coronavirus restrictions. The executive order states that any fines imposed between March 1, 2020, and March 10, 2021, by any subdivision of Florida related to local COVID-19 restrictions are canceled. The order can also serve as a defense to the collection of those fines. The order does not cancel fines imposed on assisted living facilities, hospitals or health care providers.

This is good news for the people of Florida who live in areas where their local governments have imposed their own draconian restrictions.

Of course these totalitarians are looking at ways they can bypass this executive order, even threatening total lockdown in some cases:

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said “As far as fining businesses going forward… we have the county attorney’s office reviewing our options.”

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman said “Time and again, in the absence of state leadership and a coherent strategy, cities like St. Petersburg have had to take the lead. We will continue to do so as best we can.”

Broward County says they will continue to enforce COVID-19 rules and penalties despite the executive order.

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said “It’s great that the federal government just gave us $140 million, because we could use some of the money, I presume, to reimburse.”
