Western Europeans see the Orthodox and eastern Christians as satraps and a bunch of smugglers, while the Orthodox regard the Crusaders as barbarian usurpers bent on world conquest.
Not everything Escobar writes here is true though. The Russian Orthodox church claim that they are the Third Rome, but they're not really. Only they believe that. There is a kind of schism between the Russian Orthodox Church and that of the Greek Orthodox Church, since most Orthodox Christians are not interested in taking orders from the tsar of the day. Other than that, it's an ok piece for a relaxing Sunday.
