A rare total solar eclipse blackened skies over Antarctica…

The Sun, Moon and Earth aligned directly in Western Antarctica, causing a total solar eclipse that plunged the continent into darkness for about two minutes.

The ‘ring of fire’ phase, during which the Moon completely eclipses the Sun’s disk, lasted 40 seconds in the blackened skies.

Only a handful of scientists and tourists, who paid $40,000 each, witnessed the astronomical phenomenon with their own eyes.
