A branch of Al Qaeda in northwestern Africa claimed responsibility for an attack on a United Nations base in Mali that killed 10 Chadian peacekeepers on Sunday, saying it was in response to Chad’s resumption of diplomatic relations with Israel.

In a statement, the United Nations mission in Mali said that a peacekeeping base had come under attack in the northeastern village of Aguelhok. The village is in one of the most troubled regions of the country, which has repeatedly been in the cross hairs of a jihadist insurgency.

The National Parks Service announced that it would open Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park for over two weeks around the MLK holiday thanks to an $83,500 grant from The Delta Air Lines Foundation.

The Atlanta, Georgia park was previously closed because of the federal government shutdown, which has entered its fifth week, but the money from the Atlanta-based airline will open the various sites in the city's historic neighborhood including his childhood home, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Fire Station No. 6, and a visitor center.

A federal judge has found four women guilty of entering a national wildlife refuge without a permit as they sought to place food and water in the Arizona desert for migrants.

Deputies said the narcotics unit executed a search warrant Thursday, January 10 in the 8200 block of Lazy Creek. During the search, authorities found 10.5 pounds of methamphetamine, two handguns and a digital scale.

The street value for the drugs is estimated to be $23,000.

Deputies arrested Jonathan Olivio, 24, on a charge of possession of controlled substance over 400 grams, which is a first degree felony.

An estimated 170 migrants have gone missing in the Mediterranean in two incidents involving dinghies that left from Libya and Morocco, migrants organisations have said.

According to a new NPR/PBS News Hour/Marist Poll, his approval among the demographic has improved by 20 points since December. The poll was taken from January 10-13, 2019 and asked "Do you approve or disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing as president? [And, would you say you strongly approve/disapprove of the job he is doing or just approve/disapprove?]"

Twenty-nine percent of Latinos responded "strongly approve," with another 22 percent who "approve." The combined number puts his approval at 51 percent. Nearly half, 41 percent, "strongly disapprove."

Before anyone says that it would have been nice if he'd done so when we controlled both Chambers because basically anything Republicans do now is entirely for show because it'll never make it though the House - well, he actually did though.
