Sunday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo Sector were fired upon by unidentified individuals while on patrol near the Rio Grande river bank. While patrolling the river bank, agents observed a group of individuals across the river on the banks of Mexico, and were able to determine that one of them was carrying what appeared to be a long firearm.

Shortly after, the agents were fired upon and took cover. None of the agents were injured.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release on the incident, describing it as a home invasion and burglary” which occurred shortly after noon. The 79-year-old woman “heard someone trying to get in a window and went to her back door to look out, at which time a black male was standing there.” She warned the would-be intruder not to come into her home.

She called 911 to report that the intruder was trying to get in her home. The 911 call recorded the woman saying, “Come on up in here, I got something for you.”

"Smolett is a left wing extremist. What he did was a hate crime. His hatred of white people and the Trump community motivated him to perpetrate the vile act of staging his attack. It appears his skin color and sexual orientation lend him a sense of entitlement to engage in such behavior with impunity (he and his community reject the idea that their bigoted actions can be construed as a hate crime). He should be a disgrace and embarrassment to the black and gay communities. The left's refusal to vociferously reject Smolett and his actions is troubling. It reveals they embrace a glaring double standard on the issue of "hate"."
