Valery Spiridonov has the muscle-wasting condition Werdnig-Hoffmann disease, which destroys muscles and nerves in the brain and spinal cord, according to the National Organization for Rare Disorders. Feeling he had no other options outside of watching his body lose its ability for movement, Spiridonov signed up in 2015 to participate in the world’s first head transplant, conducted by colorful Italian surgeon Dr. Sergio Canavero, who would attempt to fuse Spiridonov’s head onto the spinal cord of another body.
According to the National Post, Canavero claimed he still had a long list of volunteers to choose from for the procedure
“I’m going to have to call up more military,” Trump said at a Texas political fundraiser, referring to adding more troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. “I think the border is going to be an incredible issue,” Trump added.
Trump lamented what he said was a border crisis, claiming there were “many, many dead people” as a result of the migrants' attempts to come into the United States.
A Mexican national who was previously deported, with convictions for indecent assault of a minor and DUI, is among 123 foreign nationals taken into custody during a month-long operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New Jersey. The operation, which was spearheaded by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), targeted at-large criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and other immigration violators who had prior arrests or convictions for DUI.
Of those arrested during the operation, 90 percent had prior criminal convictions and/or pending criminal charges.
Former President Barack Obama seems to believe he still speaks for the United States. It’s off-putting, could possibly undermine foreign policy, and it’s time he knocked it off.
While other former presidents return to their hometown, write their memoir, oversee construction of their library, and leave the running of the government to their successor, Obama does it differently.
Israel's Blue and White party leaders are conceding defeat in Israel's election, saying they will work against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from the opposition.
Yair Lapid, the party's No. 2 figure, told a press conference Wednesday that though his party "did not win in this round, I respect the voters." He said his party will "embitter" Netanyahu's life from the opposition.
The small-bodied hominin, named Homo luzonensis, lived on the island of Luzon at least 50,000 to 67,000 years ago. The hominin—identified from a total of seven teeth and six small bones—hosts a patchwork of ancient and more advanced features. The landmark discovery, announced in Nature on Wednesday, makes Luzon the third Southeast Asian island in the last 15 years to bear signs of unexpectedly ancient human activity.

The Hollywood elite, spearheaded by actress, Alyssa Milano, threatened to boycott the State of Georgia for proposing the new “heartbeat bill.” The bill prohibits abortion if a heartbeat is detected. But, despite the Hollywood outcries, Gov. Brian Kemp plans to pass the bill anyway.
Univar USA Inc. (Univar), a subsidiary of Univar Inc., of Downers Grove, Illinois, has agreed to pay the United States $62.5 million to settle allegations under the customs penalty statute that it was grossly negligent or negligent when it imported 36 shipments of transshipped saccharin between 2007 and 2012. The saccharin was manufactured in China and transshipped through Taiwan to evade a 329 percent antidumping duty that applied to saccharin from China. The antidumping duty was a remedial measure in response to injury sustained by the domestic saccharin industry by reason of dumping of Chinese saccharin. The transshipment resulted in the evasion of approximately $36 million in antidumping duties.
An accused Navy SEAL is seemingly being held “captive” by the Navy ahead of his trial in May, despite an order from President Donald Trump last month that SEAL Chief Eddie Gallagher be moved from the brig to less-restrictive barracks at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.
And now, Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Group 1 Commodore Capt. Matthew Rosenbloom, Gallagher’s commander and the man behind enforcing his pre-trial restrictions, has spoken out and defended the restrictions placed on Gallagher, which increasingly go against the spirit of what Trump has ordered, according to Gallagher’s family. Rosenbloom claims in a letter sent this week to Gallagher’s defense team, and reviewed by American Military News, that the order from President Trump “is a restriction order, not an entitlement order.”
House Oversight Committee Republicans on Wednesday introduced a resolution to force committee Chairman Elijah Cummings to send ex-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s congressional testimony to the Justice Department for review -- and possible prosecution for alleged perjury.
The resolution, rolled out by freshman Republican Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee, requests that the transcript of Cohen’s Feb. 27 interview before the committee be submitted for review to Attorney General Bill Barr.
Attorney General Bill Barr testified Wednesday that he believes "spying did occur" on the Trump campaign in 2016, as he vowed to review the conduct of the FBI's original Russia probe -- and the focus of a related internal review shifted to the role of a key FBI informant.
"I think spying did occur. The question is whether it was adequately predicated. … I think it’s my obligation. Congress is usually very concerned with intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies staying in their proper lane,"...
Now scientists in southern China report that they’ve tried to narrow the evolutionary gap, creating several transgenic macaque monkeys with extra copies of a human gene suspected of playing a role in shaping human intelligence.
According to their findings, the modified monkeys did better on a memory test involving colors and block pictures, and their brains also took longer to develop—as those of human children do. There wasn’t a difference in brain size.
