The Pentagon announced Monday that the military conducted a test over the weekend of a type of missile that previously had been banned for the last 30 years under a treaty between the United States and Russia.

The test, which took place off the coast of California, marks the resumption of an arms competition that some analysts worry could increase U.S.-Russia tensions after the two world powers abandoned a long-standing treaty earlier this month.

(Brunel has denied these claims and says Vasquez was fired from his agency for embezzling company funds.)" according to the report.

The latest uptick in numbers prompted dramatic press releases, anguished editorials and a ton of finger-pointing by elected officials. In the merry-go-round of blame, local officials claim the state isn't doing enough. California's governor says it's Washington's fault for slashing federal funds and President Trump responds by taking aim at the Democrats' governing skills...

Things were supposed to change in November, when California Democrats scored the trifecta of legislative wins: both houses of government and the governorship. With two-thirds of votes likely in place and Gov. Gavin Newsom's pledge to make housing a priority, there was optimism in the air. That ended when Democrats struggled to get on the same page and pass legislation that would have increased the state's housing supply. They also blew another high-profile measure that would increase residential development near transit strops and in single-family neighborhoods. Other failures were chalked up to division among special-interest groups and a hands-off approach by the governor's office -- though he denies it.

Twitter is finding itself at the heart of a heated political battle. Pinboard and other users have observed Twitter running ads from China's state-backed media outlet Xinhua attacking the Hong Kong protesters opposed to both a (since-suspended) extradition bill and broader dissatisfaction with the government. The ads try to portray the protests as "escalating violence" and calls for "order to be restored." Other ads have highlighted alleged supporters of the Chinese "motherland" and have pointed out Hong Kong's economic troubles from earlier in the year...

"He will then type a few sentences and the AI will pull Sally’s previous recordings, generate synthetic audio based on it, sync the mouth movements, and Sally will 'say' things – in her voice – that she had never ever said. "The bad actor will need no technical expertise, only the ability to type."

He added: "Due process will be compromised without video veracity solutions: innocent people will be wrongfully convicted on manufactured evidence and guilty people will be off the hook for raising doubt as to the authenticity of the visual evidence against them."...

"Some media outlets are sacrificing the future of our planet for the sake of appearing objective," Margaret Klein Salamon, founder and executive director of The Climate Mobilization, said in a news release Saturday.

"This idea of equating climate deniers with scientific experts is a dangerous practice which frames the threat to our planet, our existence as an ongoing debate," Klein Salamon added. "I don’t think sacrificing the future of our planet in exchange for a look of 'objectivity' is an even exchange. It’s one the coming generation will judge us on, if we don’t move with the urgency necessary to fight back against global warming and win."

In other words, climate alarmists aren't just calling for radical changes to America to stave off some hypothetical climate disaster — they're also calling for opposing voices to be silenced. "Science" can only have one voice, and that voice must be Chicken Little...

Planned Parenthood said Monday it's pulling out of the federal family planning program rather than abide by a new Trump administration rule prohibiting clinics from referring women for abortions. Alexis McGill Johnson, Planned Parenthood's acting president and CEO, said the organization's nationwide network of health centers would remain open and strive to make up for the loss of federal money. But she predicted that many low-income women who rely on Planned Parenthood services would "delay or go without" care.

Launching Sept. 15, the Good & Gather brand will be the largest of Target's private labels, and follows the company's apparel and home goods brands in recent years. By the end of 2020, Target said it will have more than 2,000 products across food and beverage. Target's grocery business has had seven consecutive quarters of positive same-store sales growth, Lundquist said. Analysts said the new brand will only comprise about 20 percent of the retailer's total business, compared to groceries adding up to more than 50 percent of Walmart's sales.

Although it is technically true, Elon ultimately says not to worry about the 2029 asteroid but we should think about having an asteroid defense system put in place in the future.

In an interview yesterday with John Shipton (JulianAssange’s father) on @3CR (link to program here) reiterated the chilling message from @johnpilger about Assange’s failing health and urgency required by the Australian government to aid in his freedom. Shipton said Julian’s younger brother had been able to visit him in Belmarsh Prison and found Assange to be “emaciated, suffering anxiety and his well-being declining rapidly.”

Mr. Shipton also stated that the prison is purposely scheduling medical appts to shorten loved ones visits...

Speaking on the TV circuit on Sunday, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed that the US president is really mulling the purchase of world’s largest island: "It's an interesting story,” Larry Kudlow told Fox News Sunday. “It’s developing. We’re looking at it. We don’t know." He also reminded host Dana Perino that “years ago” another US President, Harry Truman, also considered buying the 2,166,086-sq-km island, 80 percent of which is covered with ice.

Trump told reporters when asked about the idea... “Essentially, it’s a large real estate deal. A lot of things can be done. It’s hurting Denmark very badly, because they’re losing almost $700 million a year carrying it. So they carry it at a great loss,”...

The New York Times and Washington Post... Both newspapers reported that Greenland experienced temperature records in June this year. The Times hyped scares of melting ice and rising sea levels... But Anthony Watts noticed something about the latest scare:

Danish climate body wrongly reported Greenland heat record... “Was there record-level warmth on the inland ice on Friday?” it said. “No! A quality check has confirmed out suspicion that the measurement was too high.”...
