August 27, 2019
A Fayetteville bartender won a $3.2 million verdict Monday evening against her ex-husband and his new significant other in what appears to be North Carolina’s first revenge porn lawsuit to reach a jury verdict. Elizabeth Ann Clark a year ago leveled accusations of alienation-of-affection, libel and revenge porn in the case against ex-husband Adam Matthew Clark and his partner, Kimberly Rae Barrett, in Cumberland County Superior Court.

August 27, 2019
A top executive at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), a top trade association representing heavy hitters and power players from Hollywood in Washington, D.C., has been arrested by Metropolitan Police Department detectives for alleged “rape and blackmail,” a police report reviewed by Breitbart News states. The police report describes how Steven Fabrizio, who according to his LinkedIn page is the Senior Executive Vice President and Global General Counsel for the MPAA, struck up a relationship with a woman on a “dating website.” After what the detectives describe as a series of encounters between the woman and Fabrizio, which she claims she attempted to end multiple times, the report says she called the police for help.
Trump and Rouhani say they are willing to meet…
August 27, 2019
Trump agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron, who served as go-between, that the meeting could occur within weeks. “If the circumstances were correct, were right, I would certainly agree to that,” Trump said at a joint news conference with Macron at the end of the Group of Seven summit in Biarritz, France. Rouhani, in a televised speech in Iran, said he was open to talks. “If I knew that going to a meeting and visiting a person would help my country’s development and resolve the problems of the people, I would not miss it,” he said, in an apparent reference to Trump. “We have to negotiate, we have to find a solution, and we have to solve the problem,” Rouhani said.

Johnson & Johnson is responsible for fueling Oklahoma’s opioid crisis, judge rules in landmark case…
August 26, 2019
A judge Monday found Johnson & Johnson responsible for fueling Oklahoma’s opioid crisis, ordering the health care company to pay $572.1 million to redress the devastating consequences suffered by the state and its residents... With more than 40 states lined up to pursue similar claims against the pharmaceutical industry, the ruling in the first state case to go to trial could influence both side’s strategies in the months and years to come. Its impact on an enormous federal lawsuit brought by nearly 2,000 cities, counties, Native American tribes and others, which is scheduled to begin in October, is less certain.

The company’s products — two prescription opioid pills and a fentanyl skin patch sold by its subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals — were just a small part of the painkillers consumed in Oklahoma. But Hunter painted the company as a “kingpin” of the drug trade because two other companies it owned grew, processed and supplied most of the main ingredients in painkillers sold by most drug companies.‘Notorious RBG’ in first public appearance since cancer treatment…

This Giant AI Chip Is the Size of an iPad and Holds 1.2 Trillion Transistors…
August 26, 2019
Building all 400,000 cores into the same chip should get round that bottleneck, but there are reasons it’s not been done before, and Cerebras has had to come up with some clever hacks to get around those obstacles.
[...]
We’ll have to wait until the first systems ship to customers in September to see if those claims stand up. But Feldman told ZDNet that the design of their chip should help spur greater innovation in the way engineers design neural networks. Many cornerstones of this process—for instance, tackling data in batches rather than individual data points—are guided more by the hardware limitations of GPUs than by machine learning theory, but their chip will do away with many of those obstacles...

August 27, 2019
U.S. prosecutors said Monday they have charged an Oregon drug smuggler in what they described as a sordid murder-for-hire plot that targeted an associate who owed tens of thousands of dollars for marijuana trafficking services. Authorities say John Tobe Larson, 68, offered an informant $20,000 to kill the associate, whom he had met in prison, and dump his body at sea so it would never be found.

At the scene, officers located Luke Lenzner with injuries to his face. Lenzner told FOX 12 that he and his wife were on a date night. People came from the inside out - just circled me and my wife," said Lenzner.
Prince Andrew Will Cooperate With FBI’s Epstein Probe if Asked,…
August 26, 2019
Following an outcry over what many saw as an inadequate statement this weekend in which the queen’s second son sought to downplay and minimize his friendship with Epstein, at one stage calling it a mere “association,” sources at Buckingham Palace on Monday told The Daily Beast, when asked if Andrew would help American police if requested: “Members of the royal family would always cooperate with the police in an appropriate way.” Whilst not exactly an effusive offer to volunteer information, Andrew probably has little choice but to at least appear to be willing to hypothetically cooperate with American police. The FBI is investigating both the charges against Epstein and the circumstances around his death, but have not yet publicly said if they are seeking to interview Prince Andrew.

August 26, 2019
A bill would forbid the use of federal grants, which the Department of Transportation often makes to big-city transit authorities, to buy new subway trains or buses from the Chinese-owned manufacturer CRRC.

CRRC has built two American plants, one in Massachusetts and one in Illinois, where it assembles the rail cars. The shells are imported from China; other parts are made in the United States. Puentes says there are no American-owned companies that make these kinds of commuter rail cars, although there are U.S. firms that make freight cars...We would of quoted some more of the article, but it goes into a doom-and-gloom scenario by only quoting Anti-Trump characters. "I understand that you wanted to know more why your monetization on your channel has been disabled," a member of YouTube's Support Team wrote to Hoffman in an email. "Unfortunately, we cannot provide you specific details on what guideline your content has violated and also, we're not able to provide you where your channel does not comply with YouTube's YouTube Partner Program terms."
Does anyone even believe that? There really isn't any good reason to not tell someone which guideline they violated so that they won't do it again in the future.
India Develops the World’s First Iron-ion Battery
August 26, 2019
Compared to the traditional lithium ion batteries, the newly developed batteries from IIT are much more cost effective, and features slightly better storage capacity and stability. The iron-ion batteries are also much more safe to use, due to the inability of iron to produce dendrites, which prevents a short circuit from happening when the electricity is discharged, according to the research team’s findings. According to the research team, the other notable benefit of iron is its favorable physical and chemical properties.
[...]
Despite having some noticeable advantages over lithium ion batteries, the newly developed iron ion batteries will still need to undergo further optimization and testing, as the research team’s findings have showed that it is only capable of 150 cycles of charging and discharging for the time being...Trump Suggests His Miami Resort, as ‘Great Place’ for Next G7 Meeting…
