An email written by the MIT Media Lab Director Joi Ito says Gates was "directed by" Epstein to donate $2 million to the research lab in October 2014. That joins several other reported run-ins between the two wealthy men, years after Epstein was convicted of two counts of soliciting underage girls for prostitution in Palm Beach, Florida in 2008... A spokesperson for the Gates Foundation told Business Insider that "Although Epstein pursued Bill Gates aggressively, any account of a business partnership or personal relationship between the two is categorically false," and denied the contents of the email from Ito, saying "Any claim that Epstein directed any programmatic or personal grantmaking for Bill Gates is completely false."

Shadow Robotics is a London-based company which has been building robot hands for 22 years. Recently it showcased one of its newest robots at Amazon's robotics conference re:MARS, where Jeff Bezos had a go controlling the robot hands. The hands are controlled by a haptic-feedback glove. That means that not only do the hands copy what the human controller is doing, they also relay the feeling of touch back to them. Business Insider got a hands-on demonstration with the gloves to see how easy they are to operate, how natural they feel, and what the future might hold for them...

Mr. Ito acknowledged this past week taking $525,000 of Mr. Epstein’s money for the lab, as well as $1.2 million for his personal investment funds. He stepped down less than a day after an article in The New Yorker described the measures that officials at the lab took to conceal its relationship with Mr. Epstein... In a separate email to the lab community, Mr. Ito again apologized. “While this chapter is truly difficult, I am confident the lab will persevere,” he wrote. Mr. Ito shared the emails with The Times after repeated requests for comment. He was a board member of The New York Times Company since 2012, but on Saturday, the company announced that he had resigned from the board.

The surprise move pushed his trial back by four months to January 6, 2020.

Full production of the stealth jets is expected in 2020. The show of force by China comes weeks after the US announced a new military contract with Taiwan, one where it would provide 66 General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon jets.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has been creating a fifth-generation stealth fighter circle around China. Deploying F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II stealth jets across the Asia-Pacific region. By the mid-2020s, the Pentagon is expected to have at least 200 F-35s surrounding China, according to General Charles Brown, commander of the US Pacific Air Forces...

A crew from the Doolin Ferry Co. spotted something floating in the water Monday while en route to Inis Oirr, an island in Galway Bay in the North Atlantic Ocean, the company said... It turns out the boat is a U.S. Navy High Speed Maneuverable Surface Target (HSMST) whose former home was about 3,300 miles away in Norfolk, Va. “This boat was built in 2015 and it’s likely that it was lost during a training exercise, and it remained in the water drifting until it ended up in the water close to Inis Oirr and was discovered by the crew of the Doolin Express,” the company said.
