The top Democrats and Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee said in a joint statement the bill would protect the “nation’s communications networks from foreign adversaries by helping small and rural wireless providers root-out suspect network equipment and replace it with more secure equipment.”

The panel will hold a hearing on the bill Friday.

Facebook says politicians don’t have to follow its normal posting guidelines, unless they’re running an ad. The company clarified the rules around politicians’ content today, saying that “it is not our role to intervene when politicians speak.” However, they may still have posts removed if the content could “lead to real world violence and harm.”

The rule echoes a similar policy from Twitter, and it builds on previous Facebook rules about newsworthiness and fact-checking. But especially in the lead-up to the 2020 US presidential elections, Facebook is emphasizing that it wants to stay away from political disputes...

The vessel was intercepted by officials with the U.S. Coast Guard, who arrested four suspected drug smugglers... A senior Trump administration official told Fox News late Tuesday that the administration will release a document showing the intelligence community inspector general found the whistleblower who leveled an explosive accusation against President Trump concerning his talks with Ukraine had “political bias” in favor of “a rival candidate” of the president.
The official did not identify the name of the rival candidate. Separately, a senior administration official told Fox News the White House has been working as quickly as it can to release to Congress the whistleblower complaint involving President Trump's conversations with the leader of Ukraine, as long as it's legally possible.

In a statement, Gooden, R-Texas, said the resolution aims to oust Nadler, D-N.Y., as committee chairman "to end the rogue witch-hunt taking place against President Donald Trump in the House Judiciary Committee." It would also recognize "the illegality" of the impeachment proceedings.

"In recent days, Democrats have sanctimoniously declared their allegiance to the rule of law. I encourage them to follow those rules and hold Chairman Nadler accountable for breaking them," Gooden said. "By law he may not launch impeachment proceedings until the full House votes for him to do so."

The anonymous person who filed a formal, uncorroborated complaint against President Donald Trump for allegedly asking a foreign leader to investigate corruption related to Joe Biden now has a legal team that includes a Democratic operative who worked for Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.).

Andrew Bakaj, now a managing partner at the Compass Rose Legal Group, interned for Schumer in the spring of 2001 and for Clinton in the fall of the same year, according to Bakaj’s LinkedIn page. More recently, Bakaj has worked as an official in the CIA and Pentagon and specializes in whistleblower and security clearances in his legal practice.

He is the second parent to be sentenced in the nation's college admissions scandal after actress Felicity Huffman received 14 days in prison this month. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani also sentenced Sloane to 500 hours of community service over two years and a $95,000 fine... The U.S. Army confirmed on Tuesday that the warning was widely distributed after social media posts related to extremists classified as “incels,” were uncovered by intelligence officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In a September 18th email, service members were instructed to remain aware of their surroundings and “identify two escape routes” when entering theaters. In the event of a shooting, they were instructed to “run, hide, fight.”

Over time, some radicalized members of the incel community have formed an ideology that promotes violence... The Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday threatened to withhold billions from California’s highway funds over the state’s purported failure to tackle air pollution. The warning is the latest skirmish in an ongoing feud between California and the Trump administration. Last week, the EPA moved to roll back aspects of the Clean Air Act, which California has for years used to set its own emissions standards.

The federal government mandates how much pollution can be in the air. Lots of places in the country don't meet those standards. But no state has more problems than California, where 85 percent of the population — 34 million people — is breathing dirty air.

Calling the burgeoning number of cases of lung injury from vaping a public health emergency, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said the ban will immediately apply to marijuana and nicotine e-cigarettes and extend through Jan. 25, 2020. It must be approved by a health council that is nearly certain to do so. Baker’s office said that, as of Tuesday, 61 cases of suspected vaping-related illnesses in Massachusetts have been reported to the state Department of Public Health. That’s an increase of 23 over the previous week.
