Carlos Omar Pichinte, 42, pleaded no contest on September 17 to two counts of assault with intent to commit a sexual assault and one count of forcible rape... Prosecutors say his actions spanned three cities and about seven months. Pichinte drove a car with rideshare decals, picked up victims, and drove them to another location for the sexual assaults, authorities said. These reported incidents happened October 2016, as well as March, April, and May in 2017 in the cities of West Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood.

Elijah Cummings — the Baltimore-area Democrat who chaired the powerful House Oversight Committee and drew the ire of President Donald Trump — died early Thursday at Johns Hopkins Hospital due to complications from longstanding health challenges, his office said in a statement... Cummings had suffered health problems in recent years. He was sidelined for several months in 2017 after complications from an aortic valve replacement. Cummings was hospitalized again in early 2018 and was last seen at the Capitol in early September, although he continued to oversee Democrats’ impeachment inquiry remotely.

The “roadkill bill,” (Senate Bill 395) which goes into effect in 2022, will allow people to salvage and eat animals they unintentionally hit or find on the road in the state, KCAL-TV reported.
Those wanting to eat the roadkill would need to obtain a salvage permit in exchange for information about the animal, where and how it was killed in an effort to eliminate waste of carcasses and to better understand how to make roads safer for drivers and animals...

The Republican National Committee raised a record-setting $27.3 million in September and had $59.2 million cash on hand last month amid the impeachment push against President Trump -- which has fueled GOP campaign contributions heading into the 2020 election. The RNC’s September fundraising haul is the best off-cycle month in the history of both the Republican and Democratic parties. This cycle, to date, the RNC has almost tripled the Democratic National Committee’s fundraising efforts, according to the GOP, which also noted that the Democrats, as of last month, carried $7.3 million in debt.
