You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.-Maya Angelou https://t.co/46jcXSXF0B

Meanwhile, Martin Luther Cream Said:
This is one of the single most racist moments in modern American political history. As Trump began attacking my friend Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, the crowd began chanting “SEND HER BACK, SEND HER BACK.” It’s utterly despicable and dangerous. We are here. We are in THAT time. Pennsylvania mayor blocks pride flag from being raised, says flag is tied to a ‘political movement’…
July 18, 2019
Just minutes before the pride flag was set to be raised, Mayor Wally Scott ended the plans, which were to have the flag fly from Monday through Sunday in recognition of Reading’s pride celebration, the Reading Eagle reports. Reading is a city of almost 90,000 people located in the southeastern portion of the state... “He has concerns for flying a flag for one specific cause because it could raise questions,” Waltman said. “I didn't even have time to debate that with him.” “The mayor stated he supports the group, the cause but had concerns about raising the flag,” Waltman added. Acting managing director Osmer Deming explained that the mayor believes flying the flag would be against city policy because it represents a political movement.

July 18, 2019
Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) has blocked the passage of a measure extending compensation for the victims of the 9/11 attacks, citing cost concerns. The measure had broad bipartisan support.
The bill, which would authorize funding for sick and dying first responders until fiscal year 2090 passed the House in a 402-12 vote last week and had 73 co-sponsors in the Senate. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York), one of the contenders for the presidential ticket in 2020, attempted to pass it by unanimous consent on Wednesday, skipping debate if there were no objections from other senators.
Paul, however, objected. The Kentucky Republican, known as a deficit hawk, blocked the bill until it could be resubmitted with an amendment guaranteeing spending cuts elsewhere to offset its estimated $10 billion price tag...
Instagram will now hide likes in 6 more countries…
July 18, 2019
Just a few months back, Instagram started testing a design tweak that would no longer show the total number of “likes” other users’ posts had received. You could still see everyone that liked your photos and videos — but anyone else’s stuff? Don’t worry about it.
While the company hasn’t said much about how the tests are going so far, it seems they’re going well enough to expand them. Initially rolled out in just Canada, it’ll roll out to users in six more countries starting today:
- Ireland
- Italy
- Japan
- Brazil
- Australia
- New Zealand

July 18, 2019
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps took possession of a vessel carrying what they said was 1 million liters of smuggled fuel near the island of Larak in the Persian Gulf on Sunday, according to a press release quoted by Iran’s state news agency, IRNA. Further details about the vessel, such as its nationality, weren’t disclosed... The announcement came after days of speculation that an Emirati-based tanker had been captured by Iran after vanishing from radars.

DC Braces For Impact: “It’s Going To Be Staggering, The Amount Of Names” As The Jeffrey Epstein Case Grows More Grotesque…
July 18, 2019
The Jeffrey Epstein case is an asteroid poised to strike the elite world in which he moved. No one can yet say precisely how large it is. But as the number of women who’ve accused the financier (at least, that’s what he claimed to be) of sexual assault grows to grotesque levels—there are said to be more than 50 women who are potential victims—a wave of panic is rippling through Manhattan, DC, and Palm Beach, as Epstein’s former friends and associates rush to distance themselves, while gossiping about who might be ensnared.
[...]
The questions about Epstein are metastasizing much faster than they can be answered: Who knew what about Epstein’s alleged abuse? How, and from whom, did Epstein get his supposed $500 million fortune? Why did Acosta grant Epstein an outrageously lenient non-prosecution agreement? (And what does it mean that Acosta was reportedly told Epstein “belonged to intelligence”?) But among the most pressing queries is which other famous people might be exposed for committing sex crimes.
[...]
Likely within days, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit will release almost 2,000 pages of documents that could reveal sexual abuse by “numerous prominent American politicians, powerful business executives, foreign presidents, a well-known prime minister, and other world leaders,” according to the three-judge panel's ruling...Florida governor signs tough new hazing law…
July 18, 2019
Historians and experts say the law is among the “most cutting-edge” in the nation. That’s largely because of the unique provisions that ensure Good Samaritans can’t be prosecuted if they see a hazing victim needs medical attention and they’re the first to contact 911 or campus security. In order to escape criminal charges, the person making the phone call would need to remain on the scene until help arrived, according to the law. Such a measure may reduce hazing-related deaths if students don’t fear being punished for contacting authorities. Under the law, a person could also be immune from charges if he or she administered medical aid.

Under the new law, those who weren’t physically present during a hazing event, but who helped plan it, can now be prosecuted...Microsoft warns 10,000 customers they’re targeted by nation-sponsored hackers…
July 18, 2019
According to a post from Microsoft Corporate Vice President of Customer Security & Trust Tom Burt, about 84% of the attacks targeted customers that were large, “enterprise” organizations such as corporations. The remaining 16% of attacks targeted consumer email accounts. Burt said some of the 10,000 customers were successfully compromised while others were only targeted, but he didn’t provide figures.
“This data demonstrates the significant extent to which nation-states continue to rely on cyberattacks as a tool to gain intelligence, influence geopolitics, or achieve other objectives,” Burt wrote...
