The U.S. Justice Department filed three lawsuits against California, New Jersey and a Washington county late Monday over their laws and policies limiting local cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, escalating a Trump administration battle against liberal states and localities that adopt so-called sanctuary policies... The suits target New Jersey’s law limiting the information shared with ICE officials on unauthorized immigrants living in the state, as well as a California law banning for-profit immigration detention centers. The lawsuit against King County in Washington targets an executive order the county adopted that bars its airport from being used for deportation flights.

The 2017 breach affected more than 145 million people, with the hackers successfully stealing names, addresses, Social Security and driver’s license numbers and other personal information stored in the company’s databases.

The four — members of the People’s Liberation Army, an arm of the Chinese military — are also accused of stealing the company’s trade secrets, including database designs, law enforcement officials said...

The strategy, which updates a version last released in 2015, lists Russia, China, Cuba, Iran and North Korea as notable state adversaries. It says non-state organizations like Lebanese Hizballah, ISIS and al-Qaeda as well as other criminal and ideologically motivated entities pose "significant threats." The 11-page strategy warns that emerging technologies — including artificial intelligence, advanced encryption and the "Internet of Things" — will make defending against counterintelligence threats more challenging and require vigilance that extends beyond the government.

Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to sentence former Trump confidant and GOP operative Roger Stone to between 87 and 108 months in prison after being found guilty last year on seven counts of obstruction, witness tampering and making false statements to Congress on charges that stemmed from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation... Federal Judge Amy Jackson is slated to decide on how much time Stone spends behind bars during his sentencing on Feb. 20.
